Wings Over Africa
Date
June 2003
With encouragement from the Air Squadron’s Patron, the Duke of Edinburgh, and despite an imminent war in the Middle East, the aircraft flew south over the Western Sahara, including Timbuktu, Lome, Sao Tome, Angola and Namibia in order to reach Cape Town.
The return journey took the eastern route over Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya, where one aircraft was lost in an accident but very fortunately with no injuries. Sudan and Egypt followed before crossing the Mediterranean on the last leg back to the UK.
