Gorhambury & de Havilland Museum
A trip to Gorhambury and the de Havilland museum, 2017
A bright and breezy day welcomed us, Johnny had mowed a strip in his park, and a number of members arrived for coffee in the long grass, and then a fascinating visit to the DH Museum.
As well as the Mosquito, various DH jets and other gems, Johnny found his father’s old DH Dove, to which he and his grandson, Johnny Grimston, went to enjoy a choc ice.
On 9 June 2017 Johnny and Dione Verulam welcomed the RAS to Gorhambury, Johnny’s family home, as the base for a visit to the De Havilland Museum. Johnny’s father had been an early member of the Air Squadron, having been a pilot in the RAF in the second World War.
We returned to Gorhambury for an excellent lunch and then a guided tour around Gorhambury House, the family’s 18th century house, crammed full of wonderful pictures and other collections.
We all left at tea time, having been spoiled by a visit to a historic house, a tour of a fascinating museum and a slap-up lunch – all kindly hosted by the Verulams.
George.
